The Stately Procession, Le Fete de Banquiers Gras & Le Monstre Funke Confiture
(Second Line Parade, Krewe Lunch and Funk Concert)
February 25th 2022
The Stately Procession, a second line rabble led and escorted by a phalanx of New Orleans Police Officers and the Foxy Fat Bankers, our beautiful and handsome dancers (Yup, we have man dancers, too) begins at noon. As we processes in a stately manner through the French Quarter to Galatoire’s, we revel in throwing beads, provided as part of the festivities, to the adoring and expectant crowd, which groves along with us to the brass funk of one of New Orelans’s most notable brass bands, which, along with fantastically-footed sidewalk steppers, will also accompany us. Past performers during the Stately Procession include the Rebirth Brass Band, members of the Soul Rebels, members of the New Orleans Night Crawlers, and members of the To Be Continued Brass Band (we’re still talkin ‘bout Ray Nagin, too). Our arrival at Galatoire’s marks the beginning of Le Fête de Banquiers Gras, The Fat Bankers’ annual friday Krewe lunch, which kicks off with a performance of the sidewalk steppers and brass band followed by the Reading of the Writ of Supergroovalisticprositfunkstication. It reaches a fever pitch when the new Fat Bankers are inducted and presented their Krewe badges. Lunch at Galatoire’s, one of the Crescent City’s very best restaurants, is, as one expects, gourmet and includes a multicourse lunch with cocktails and wine so that everyone remains well hydrated
The fever pitch goes into hyperdrive at about 4:00 p.m. when Le Fête transforms into Le Funke, and our resident groupe funk du célébrité, The Funky Uncle All-Stars performs its annual Le Monstre Funke Confiture. A cash Bar remains open until 7:00 p.m., when it’s time to eat again (on your own) and rest (on you own or in a huddle, that’s up to you) because Parade Day always dawns suprisingly early.
All three events are free to Fat Bankers’ riders. Non-riders and guests are welcome for a fee.
