Krewe of Tucks Mardi Gras Parade
18 February 23 @ 10:00 am
Krewe of Tucks Parade
We assemble at the Krewe of Tucks Mardi Gras Parade line up at Tchoupitoulas near Marengo, by no later than 10:30 a.m. The parade rolls at Noon. Lunch, usually gumbo, jambalaya, and poboys, is served near the float. Please bring anything that you want to drink on the float. Ice will be provided. Bathrooms are available on each float and atypically luxurious for a Mardi Gras float; air freshening is provided by a steady stream of diesel exhaust from the might tractors hauling the largest triple and only mobile music hall in Mardi Gras.
All beads are provided and will be pre-loaded on the float. All you need to do is show up with something to drink! Costumes, too, are provided. You may pick up your costume in advance or it will be available on the float. No hauling beads or chasing around after costumes components. Your sole responsibility on Parade Day is to enjoy the (hopefully) excellent weather and laissez les bons temps rouler.
Every float has unique, custom designed beads and throws along with many Krewe of Tucks throws. The Fat Bankers have no generic throws; everything is Fat Banker- or Krewe of Tucks-branded. Last year we featured the Fat Bankers’ first LP and MP3 music download, the ImmunoFunk Vaccination, which featured live performances from Fridays from the Funky Uncle, the concert series the Fat Bankers have hosted to raise money for gig worker relief since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The LP was submitted for a Grammy® Award and is available on Spotify and Apple.
An abundant supply of beads for all 200 riders is preloaded on each float for communal use; the Fat Bankers do not individually mark bead “packages” for individual use. Through many years of parading we have found that the communal approach is more fun, easier, and less apt to create tension and worry about purchasing “enough.” We ask only that everyone abide by the Funk maxim: “Take what you want but leave some for me.”
The Krewe of Tucks hosts an after-parade Extravaganza at the Canal Street Marriott, mere feet from where the Parade ends, creating little challenge in refreshening your cocktail at one of the many open bars. The Krewe Ball is more of a Krewe “Brawl,” featuring several bands and other entertainment. A large buffet dinner is also served.
The Krewe of Tucks Mardi Gras Parade, Pre-Parade lunch, and Extravanganza are free to Fat Bankers’ riders. Guest tickets for the Extravaganza are available from the Krewe at firstname.lastname@example.org. We recommend you act early because Extravaganza tickets oftentimes sell out and we have no control over the Krewe of Tucks’s sales policies.
